Hainan Imports Thai Coconuts: First Shipment Breaks the Ice and Drives Industry Chain Upgrades
In February 2023, 25.8 tons of fresh young coconuts from Thailand arrived at Yangpu Port aboard a cargo ship, marking a “zero breakthrough” for Hainan Free Trade Port's fresh fruit import operations. Benefiting from customs' “immediate declaration and review” facilitation measures, these “friendship fruits” from Thailand swiftly completed quarantine approval and customs clearance, directly supplying China's fresh food market and processing enterprises.
Renowned for their aromatic sweetness, Thai coconuts serve as a key vehicle for agricultural cooperation between China and Thailand. This import not only tested the operational capacity of Yangpu Port's designated supervision site for incoming fruits but also provided valuable experience for Hainan's closed-border operation. Leveraging free trade port policies, enterprises have optimized supply chains to efficiently connect Thailand's premium resources with China's vast domestic market.
With smoother import channels, Hainan is progressively establishing an industrial chain integrating “overseas direct sourcing + local processing + domestic market.” Imported young coconuts not only enrich residents' dining tables but also provide stable raw materials for the local coconut processing industry. This drives the sector's transformation from “import dependency” to “global resource allocation,” continuously unlocking the benefits of free trade port openness.
